IFPE 2014 Simerics and PumpLinx® at 2014 IFPE Show

Simerics attended the 2014 IFPE Show in Las Vegas, NV, March 4-8. The show itself has over 400 exhibitors, including virtually all major pump and valve manufacturers in the Fluid Power Industry.

The technical sessions also had several sessions on Fluid Power components, including a presentation on "Improving the position control performance of a Proportional spool valve, using a 3D CFD modeling [PumpLinx]", by A. Senatore, D. Buono, E. Frosina, University of Naples Federico II, M. Pavanetto, I.I. Costin, Duplomatic Oledinamica S.p.A., and M. Olivetti, OMIQ s.r.l. Pump User Simerics and CFturbo Sign Collaborative Agreement

CFturbo GmbH and Simerics Inc. have signed an agreement to develop and maintain interfaces between the turbomachinery design software CFturbo® and Simerics' virtual testing CFD tools PumpLinx® and Simerics MP®. This collaboration will offer the user of both software packages a complete process for the design, the analysis and the simulation of turbo machineries.

Levant Power Levant Power optimizes GenShock with PumpLinx®

Levant Power is developing GenShock, an active suspension system for cars and trucks that vastly improves ride, handling, and comfort. PumpLinx is at the center of their product development process, and has quantitatively helped drive the design of their technology. A joint technical paper (FPMC2013-4402 ) entitled "Analysis and Optimization of an Electrohydraulic Valve for use in a Fully-Active Vehicle Suspension through the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics," will be presented in the optimization Session of the ASME/Bath 2013 Symposium on Fluid Power & Motion Control, Tuesday, October 08, 2013 04:00 PM-05:15 PM.

"PumpLinx has enabled our engineering team to accurately simulate performance of GenShock and its internal design features. It is delivering more accurate results for our hydraulic pump and valve modeling efforts than previous CFD packages we have utilized, saving us time and money. A couple data points: our latest generation GenShock demonstrated empirical performance within 1.7% of our un-calibrated predictions. The ability to accurately simulate design features enabled us to rapidly hone in on design enhancements, delivering a 3x improvement in system efficiency over the previous generation. "

Compressor Conference Short Course: PumpLinx® for PD machines at City University London, 8th Sept.

Dr. Sam Lowry, President Simerics will present an introductory lecture on "PumpLinx: Virtual Testing of Fluid Pumps, Motors, Compressors, Valves and Systems" at the City University of London Short Course to be held on the 7th and 8th of September 2013. Abstract: "PumpLinx: Virtual Testing of Fluid Pumps, Motors, Compressors, Valves and Systems"

Computer simulations of pumps and compressors can now serve the same function as hardware testing. These simulations can be done in less time with less cost while providing engineering data of similar quality as experiments. Furthermore, computer modeling can be performed directly by the engineer doing the hardware design, thus providing a tight link between analysis and design optimization. Virtual testing can also be used to analyze problems with existing hardware, either as standalone components or in the context of a system. This presentation focuses on PumpLinx, a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool that serves as a virtual test bed. PumpLinx predicts the performance of pumps and compressors in terms of head rise, power, efficiency, cavitation effects, noise, and/or damage. PumpLinx starts with existing designs created in a third party CAD package. Once the geometry is imported, the pump is meshed, modeled, simulated and analyzed, all in a single interface. Various operating conditions and fluid properties can be input to simulate the pump or compressor over a range of operating conditions. The output is similar to what would be measured for a fully instrumented test, with additional flow visualization and integrated quantities. This presentation will provide selected examples of the simulation of compressors and pumps.

HMS Group Evaluation of PumpLinx® by HMS Group Published in World Pumps.

HMS Group Russia conducted an evaluation of PumpLinx in comparison with test data for several of their centrifugal and mixed-flow pumps. Selected results are presented in the article "Cost cutting with pump performance prediction," published in the July/August 2013 edition of World Pumps (www.worldpumps.com ). A copy of the article is available via the World Pumps' download site.

Based on the evaluation, HMS had the following testimonial for PumpLinx,

"PumpLinx for me has surpassed all expectations: 3D model preparation - 2 hours maximum, 1 hour on average. No problems with mesh creation - always created and there are no errors in the calculations because of the quality of the grid. Calculation of the first characteristic point is no more than 10-30 minutes, which is 10-30 times faster than our main program. Accuracy of the calculation for the pressure and for the efficiency in the range of 1% to 3% max (in the operating range of feeds, and for one pump and throughout the feature). To sum up the total: a great program for the engineer;quick and easy; Overall evaluation of 9 out of 10 (with 10 being a perfect virtual [Score])"

Simerics is proud to announce the release of PumpLinx® Version 3.2. Simerics® Advanced Training Classes in China

Two advanced PumpLinx training classes were held in the Hikey Shanghai and Beijing Offices on August 15, 2012 and August 21, 2012 respectively. Dr. Hui Ding from Simerics worked together with Hikey engineers to demonstrate to more than 100 engineers from various industries the advanced capacities of PumpLinx in solving real engineering problems.

In the course of the training, the engineers were introduced to the Simerics/PumpLinx simulation software. They were shown numerous validation cases and given hands-on training on how to set-up and run axial/centrifugal and positive displacement pumps. The later included the prediction of the valve dynamics for a Variable Displacement Vane Pump (VDVP). All who attended had the opportunity to experience directly the speed, ease-of-use and accuracy of PumpLinx.

Simerics Adds Progressive Cavity Pump Template to its PumpLinx® Software

Simerics has released the Progressive Cavity Pump Template for PumpLinx®, the CFD virtual test bed for pumps. Pump manufacturers rely on PumpLinx® to improve product performance, as well as to reduce cavitation, cavitation damage, and noise.

The PumpLinx® Progressive Cavity Pump Template now extends the virtual pump testing capabilities of PumpLinx® for progressive cavity pumps by modeling cavitation, pressure, and other flow dynamics for these numerically challenging pumps.

PumpLinx® provides a new approach that allows for fast and easy model set up, accuracy, and fast calculation speed, as well as automated grid generation and superior treatment of rotating-and sliding interfaces, and is able to model micron scale stator and rotor clearances.

Simerics announces the release of PumpLinx® V.3.0.

PumpLinx® is a 3D simulation software tool, uniquely suited for the analysis and design of pumps, motors, compressors, propellers, valves, hydraulic systems and other fluid devices with rotating or sliding components.

PumpLinx® can be used to improve efficiency, minimize cavitation, control pressure ripple, and reduce noise.

PumpLinx®, based on the Simerics general-purpose CFD simulation software, enables the engineer to create a virtual test article and generate flow visualization and engineering output as accurate as a full scale hardware test at a fraction of the time and cost. The code is continually being developed to add new capability for modeling a wide range of equipment.

With this in mind, Simerics is pleased to release PumpLinx® V.3.0.

PumpLinx Version® V.3.0 New Features:

1. A new design of graphic interface and post-processing data structure; now PumpLinx® supports up to four concurrent display of GL project windows;

2. Expanded valve and pump templates, such as new remesh model for rotational devices and variable displacement vane pump;

3. More physics models, such as dynamics module for any translational and rotational movements; and more advanced porous resistance model;

4. Major improvements of Conformal Adaptative Binary-tree (CAB) mesher: memory usage and time to generate mesh are reduced significantly; Also more than fifty new developments have been implemented in the new version.
